What Is Root Canal Treatment?
Root canal treatment (endodontic therapy) removes infected or damaged pulp tissue from inside the tooth, saving it from extraction. Contrary to popular belief, modern root canal treatment is painless thanks to effective local anaesthesia.
Signs You May Need a Root Canal
- Severe or persistent toothache
- Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold
- Swelling or abscess near the tooth
- Darkening of the tooth
The Process
After anaesthesia, the pulp is removed, canals are shaped and disinfected using rotary instruments, then filled with biocompatible material. Most cases complete in 1–2 sessions. A crown is recommended afterwards to protect the tooth long-term.
